Aston Martin AM 310 Concept

Revealed at the recent Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este exclusive motorshow as the AM 310 Concept, Aston Martin on 20 June 2012, officially debuted online their new luxury sports car flagship – the Vanquish.
This new flagship takes over from the older DBS with styling cues such as their iconic waist, elongated side strakes and LED rear light blades inspired from their already sold out One-77 supercar.
The design of the new Vanquish shows a clear and coherent lineage from its heritage while providing an insight to the brands future.
“Today’s Vanquish is the ultimate expression of Aston Martin design ethos, engineering innovation and technical ability. It offers luxurious, continent-crossing capability and pure driving excitement without compromise.” said Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer Dr Ulrich Bez.
“Bearing the same name as the iconic original Vanquish that did so much to cement Aston Martin’s reputation as a maker of great GT cars in the modern era, I believe the car unveiled today once again puts this great British brand at the top of its class.” he said.
“The new Vanquish mixes beautiful design with impressive technology such as the superb new infotainment system. This is the latest incarnation of everything we know, informed and developed from One-77. It is the ultimate Super Grand Tourer – confident and assured – and is the newest representation of Power, Beauty and Soul.” he added.
For the first time in an Aston Martin, carbon fibre is used to make every external panel of the new Vanquish. This provides the car with reduced weight but offer stiffer body panels.
Also, to add to the stiffen body, this new flagship features their fourth generation VH (Vertical Horizontal) bonded aluminium monocoque chassis that improves torsional rigidity by more than 25 percent. The use of carbon fiber in the rear structure and hollow-cast aluminum instead of solid cast aluminum at the front end makes this car lighter by 13 percent when compared to the DBS.
As a result to all these weight saving measures, the new Vanquish is about 55 kg lighter than the DBS eventhough it is 5 mm wider and 14 mm taller.
This slightly larger car boasts slightly larger interior with legroom increased by 37 mm, shoulder room grows 25 mm, elbow room extends by 87 mm and knee room is boosted by 50 mm. All this, as the dash surface is moved forward 20 mm. Boot space also receives a 60 percent increase at 368 litres.
Designed and hand-built at Aston Martin’s global headquarters at Gaydon in Warwickshire, the new Vanquish is available as a 2+2 or 2+0, with 5 interior colour soft-touch leather options – Winter Wheat, Obsidian Black, Tuscan Tan, Spicy Red and Kestrel Tan leather.
The new flagship is powered by a significantly revised naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine mated to the Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox. The V12′s power peak of 565 hp makes it Aston Martin’s most potent production model yet. With torque figures at 620 Nm at 5,500 rpm, the new Vanquish will hit 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and tops out at 295 km/h.
Pirelli P-Zero high-performance tires are fitted on the new 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels. It also features a third generation Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes. The front brakes uses a 398 mm disc with a six-piston brake callipers and the rear uses a 360 mm discs with a four-piston calliper.
The new Vanquish also gets Aston Martin’s Adaptive Damping System (ADS) that allows the driver to switch between three modes: Normal, Sport and Track, which adjust the ride and handling characteristics. It boasts a plethora of dynamic aids including Dynamic Stability Control and Positive Torque Control.
“The Aston Martin range is stronger now than at any time in our 99-year history. The new Vanquish represents the perfect way to signal the beginning of our centenary celebrations next year.” said Dr Bez.
